Cemetery Mapping Project

The Jewish Columbus Cemetery Mapping Project is an effort by the Jewish Columbus Cemetery Association to map the burial locations in Jewish designated cemeteries in Franklin County. The primary goal of the project was to allow visitors to find graves and use a phone app to direct them to the location on site. A secondary goal is to provide a centralized database of all central Ohio burials for researchers through CJHS.

CJHS manages and updates the database locations. Any questions regarding cemetery upkeep should be directed to the appropriate synagogue.

This project was developed from the original work of Jules & Cyril Duga who did the initial mapping of Jewish cemeteries and grave location throughout central and southeastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania which are a part of the CJHS archive.

The maps are in the process of being upgraded to add additional plots. Please check back or report any issues to the CJHS office as we perfect this new system.

Included in this effort are the following cemeteries:

  • “New Cemeteries” on Performance Way: Tifereth Israel, Beth Jacob, Agudas Achim, Temple Israel, and Ahavas Sholom
  • “Old Cemeteries” on Alum Creek Drive: Agudas Achim, Beth Jacob, Tifereth Israel, Ahavas Sholom
  • Green Lawn Cemetery: Temple Israel, Beth Tikvah, Beth Shalom
  • Mt. Calvary Cemetery (the oldest Jewish cemetery): Temple Israel
  • Forest Lawn Cemetery: Temple Israel

This is currently being beta-tested as more locations have been added to each map to anticipate growth.

This will be available for public use in the spring–please check back for updates.
